Dear parents and students,

This August, the weather was not hot but instead multiple black rainstorm warnings were hoisted, with torrential rain every day causing widespread flooding. Fortunately, students could stay home to complete their summer assignments or rest. For some parents or adult family members, they still had to go to work as usual, getting completely soaked and quite disheveled. Here, we express our gratitude to them for diligently carrying out their duties under any circumstances, ensuring the smooth functioning of society. We sincerely thank them.

同時，我也要感謝老師們在暑假期間安排的各項活動，包括軟式曲棍球、足球、馬賽克藝術、籃球、療癒植栽、排球和舞蹈等，讓一些學生在暑假能夠參加有意義的活動，促進身心靈的成長。

At the same time, I would like to thank the teachers for organizing various activities during the summer holiday, including soft hockey, football, mosaic art, basketball, planting, volleyball, and dancing. These activities allowed some students to participate in meaningful engagements during the holidays, promoting their physical, mental, and emotional growth.

明年的學校工作安排已於七月中旬完成，各位主任可以利用暑假進行準備，也好好休息。今年，我選擇到日本大阪旅行，因為希望在一生中至少參加一次世界博覽會（世博）。

The school’s work management for next year were completed in mid-July, allowing senior teacher to prepare during the summer holiday while also taking time to rest. This year, I chose to travel to Osaka, Japan, as I hope to attend the World Expo at least once in my lifetime.

世博的起源可以追溯到中世紀的歐洲，當時商人們定期舉辦市集進行交易，隨著規模擴大，貿易涵蓋了藝術、哲學和科學等領域。第一屆世博會於1851年在英國舉行，旨在讓各國展示自己的發展，促進交流，共同為全球的進步努力。近年來，各國的世博會主題多圍繞「人與自然共存的環境保護」、「生態發展」和「可持續發展」。

The origin of the World Expo can be traced back to medieval Europe, when merchants regularly held fairs for trade. As these events grew in scale, they expanded to include art, philosophy, and science. The first World Expo was held in 1851 in the England, aimed at allowing countries to showcase their developments, promote exchange, and collectively strive for global progress. In recent years, Expo themes have often revolved around "coexistence of humans and nature," "ecological development," and "sustainable development."

我國分別在昆明（1999年）、上海（2010年）和北京（2019年）舉辦世博，主題包括「人與自然-邁向21世紀」、「城市，讓生活更美好」和「綠色生活，美麗家園」，希望為人類建構一個安全、美麗、可持續的生活環境。

China hosted World Expos in Kunming (1999), Shanghai (2010), and Beijing (2019), with themes such as "Man and Nature – Marching into the 21st Century," "Better City, Better Life," and "Green Living, Beautiful Home," aiming to build a safe, beautiful, and sustainable living environment for humanity.

此次在日本大阪舉行的世博主題為「生命閃耀未來、社會的設計」，日本政府特地為此建設了一個人工島，大家可以乘坐鐵路直接到達「夢洲站」。今年八月的日本天氣十分炎熱，幸好我在八月七日前往，那天早上下了雨，氣溫下降不少，下午則以陰天為主，間中有陽光。

The theme of the current Expo in Osaka, Japan, is "Designing Future Society for Our Lives." The Japanese government specifically built an artificial island for this event, accessible by train directly to "Yumeshima Station." The weather in Japan this August was extremely hot, but fortunately, when I visited on 7th August, it rained in the morning, cooling things down considerably, and the afternoon was mostly cloudy with occasional sunshine.

當天到達後，場內人山人海，來自不同國家的人們在交流。進入場館後，大家都往自己喜歡的展館奔跑。我一開始不知從何入手，因為場地面積達155公頃（約為三個日本環球影城的大小）。我先到資訊中心購買地圖，以便尋找展館及出路。

Upon arriving, the venue was packed with people from different countries interacting with one another. After entering, everyone rushed to their favorite pavilions. Initially, I didn’t know where to start, as the site spans 155 hectares (roughly three times the size of Universal Studios Japan). I first went to the information center to buy a map to navigate the pavilions and find my way around.

在網上購買入場券時，參觀場館需提前登記，每人有五個名額，需先選好日期，再選擇場館進行抽籤。到達世博後，我才發現自己一個場館也抽不中。雖然有些場館可以排隊，但看到人龍加上炎熱的天氣，我選擇在不同場館外拍照留念。每個國家的展館都充滿心思。我首先參觀了中國館，外面的設計以木材為主，並有許多書法，十分特別。最引人注目的則是入場後所見的「大屋根」（Grand Ring），這是世界上最大的木造建築，佔地超過60,000平方米，象徵「多樣性與統一性」。

When purchasing admission tickets online, visitors need to pre-register for pavilion visits, with each person allocated five lotteries. You must first select a date and then choose pavilions for a lottery system. Upon arriving at the Expo, I discovered that I didn’t secure any pavilion slots through the lottery. Although some pavilions allowed queuing, the long lines combined with the hot weather led me to opt for taking photos outside various pavilions instead. Each country’s pavilion was thoughtfully designed. I first visited the China Pavilion, which featured a wooden exterior adorned with calligraphy, making it quite distinctive. The most striking sight was the "Grand Ring" upon entering, the world’s largest wooden structure, spanning over 60,000 square meters and symbolizing "diversity and unity."

最受歡迎的當然是日本館展示的17公尺高的高達機械人，大家都在不停拍照。隨後，我嘗試在紀念品商店購買一些紀念品，但人太多了。大家也在選購此次世博會的吉祥物「脈脈」（MYAKU-MYAKU），這個紅色頭部象徵「細胞」，即生命的基本；藍色身體代表潔淨的水源，寓意生命的根源和流動性。這個吉祥物的自由變形能力也展現了生命的適應性與多樣性。網上對這個創作的討論也不少，有好有壞；創作者對於「脈脈」的未來充滿信心，期待它能被大眾接受。世博的展期是103天，將持續到2025年10月13日。我看到許多人在購買「脈脈」，雖然周邊產品價格不菲，但似乎相當受歡迎。

The most popular attraction was, of course, the Japan Pavilion’s 17-meter-tall Gundam robot, with everyone snapping photos nonstop. Afterward, I tried to buy souvenirs at the gift shop, but it was overcrowded. Many were purchasing the Expo’s mascot, "Myaku-Myaku," whose red head symbolizes "cells," the basis of life, and blue body represents clean water, signifying the source and flow of life. The mascot’s ability to freely transform reflects life’s adaptability and diversity. Online discussions about this creation are mixed, with both praise and criticism; the creator remains optimistic about Myaku-Myaku’s future, hoping it will be widely accepted. The Expo runs for 103 days, continuing until 13th October, 2025. I noticed many people buying Myaku-Myaku merchandise, and despite the high prices, it seems quite popular.

這使我想起我們學校下年度的發展主題：才華之年（Year of Talent）。希望同學們在2025-2026年度能多展示自己的才華，參加不同的活動、隊伍和比賽，讓大家知道：「我做得到！」老師們也會盡力安排各種項目，幫助同學們展現自我，增強自信心。每位同學就像世博的吉祥物「脈脈」，都有著不同的能力和形象。

This reminds me of our school’s development theme for the upcoming academic year: Year of Talent. We hope that in the 2025-2026 academic year, students will showcase their talents by participating in various activities, teams, and competitions, letting everyone know, “I can do it!” Teachers will strive to organize diverse programs to help students express themselves and build confidence. Every student is like the Expo mascot, Myaku-Myaku, each with unique abilities and qualities.

同學們要緊記，展示才華需要其他元素的支持，包括「堅毅」精神、勤勞練習和永不放棄的態度；要有「承擔精神」，答應參加的活動必須認真對待；要「誠信」參與，確保公平競爭；在合作中要有「同理心」和「團結」，理解他人的能力差異並相互支持，才能取得成功。最重要是「尊重別人」，不要驕傲跋扈，自以為是，應有禮相待，互相合作。新的一年，希望同學們多展現自己，不要隱藏才華，與不同的人接觸，多學習和討論。

Students should remember that showcasing talent requires the support of other elements, including a resilient spirit, diligent practice, and a never-give-up attitude; a sense of responsibility, treating committed activities seriously; integrity in participation to ensure fair competition; and empathy and unity in collaboration, understanding others’ differing abilities and supporting each other to achieve success. Most importantly, respect for others is essential—avoid arrogance or self-centeredness, treat others with courtesy, and cooperate mutually. In the new year, we hope students will actively display their talents, not hide them, and engage with different people, learning and discussing more.

校長、主任和老師們在八月中旬已開始回校會議，為下一學年做好準備，同學們要多欣賞學校的學習安排。LTY不僅是活動多的學校，更是一所有愛的學校。我們希望同學們在愛的環境下茁壯成長。每年畢業的同學都會回來探望老師，並帶著其他同學來，這些學生也會欣賞我們的學校。感謝家長的支持，讓學校不斷進步，明年將有十多位插班生加入，希望他們也能在我們的大家庭中快樂成長。另外，八月尾也舉行了小一及插班生家長會，一年級也有適應課程，他們十分雀躍，祝願他們早日適應。

The principal, senior teachers, and teachers began meetings in mid-August to prepare for the next academic year, and students should appreciate the school’s learning arrangements. LTY is not only a school with many activities but also a school full of love. We hope students will thrive in this loving environment. Every year, graduated students return to visit teachers, often bringing others along, and they too appreciate our school. Thanks to the support of parents, the school continues to progress. Next year, more than ten transfer students will join, and we hope they can grow happily in our big family. Additionally, a parents’ meeting for Primary 1 and transfer students was held at the end of August, and Primary 1 students also participated in an orientation program, where they were very excited. We wish them a swift adjustment.

相信各位同學也想知道誰是你的班主任，以及哪位老師會教授你的不同科目？班主任將很快聯絡各位家長，請不用擔心。老師們也為大家準備了一系列新的英文圖書，將在早讀、語文文化、英文及外籍老師課堂上進行，這不僅能提升學生的學習興趣，也希望增強閱讀能力。正如所說：「書中自有黃金屋。」同學們要多閱讀，提升自學能力。特別在科技發達的今天，像人工智能（AI）的發展，只有自學才能不斷進步。學校會安排一些學習機會，但同時也鼓勵大家主動學習。

I believe all students are eager to know who their class teacher will be and which teachers will be teaching their various subjects. Class teachers will soon contact parents, so please don’t worry. Teachers have also prepared a series of new English books for morning reading, language and culture, English, and classes with native-speaking teachers. These books aim not only to spark students’ interest in learning but also to enhance their reading skills. As the saying goes, “There is a house of gold within books.” Students should read more to improve their self-learning abilities. Especially in today’s technologically advanced world, with developments like artificial intelligence (AI), only self-learning can lead to continuous progress. The school will provide learning opportunities, but we also encourage everyone to take the initiative to learn.
